Mile End Community Project take US award (as well)

The Limelight Film Awards – Film Of The Night Winners  – Mile End Community Project

The Mile End Community Project runs out of the converted pram sheds on Hamlets Way. The centre is run by Nurull Islam and two of the other people involved in starting it, Assan Ali and Selim Uddin.

Over the last five months young people at the project have been busy producing their latest piece, a documentary film challenging judgements and common misconceptions about people. The end product is a powerful, challenging and artistic four minute film which raises important questions about the way in which people from all walks of life can be guilty of stereotyping one another.

  • On 17 May the film came first at the Adobe Youth Voices Event at the British Film Institute.
  • On the 14 June it won the top prize at The Limelight Film Awards at the Troxy (and a cheque for £10,000)
  • and on the 18 June it was announced in the USA they received the Gold award for best documentary at the Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards.
