Shuffle Festival 2015 // Movement, Migration and Place 24th July – 1st August Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
Tickets are now on sale for Shuffle Festival 2015: Movement, Migration and Place held in London’s most urban woodland, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. The film programme takes you on a journey; it starts where you belong, with The Godfather Part II and The Arbor, gets you stranded for 127 Hours, sails you across the sea to wash up on The Beach, where you escape with a Tropical Malady, become Lost in Translation, fight through the city and The Battle of Algiers, before returning home with Ida. Just when you feel your feet are firmly back on the ground 2001: A Space Odyssey will take you to the next frontier and Monsters brings the aliens back down to earth to see how they would fit in…..
In addition, the Migration Pavilion will house our favourite music, comedy, cabaret and spoken word from East London and beyond. Diagnose the park with Dr Bobby Baker, record your own Migration Stories, explore The Feelies 3D multi-sensory sensory cinema, climb the branches to dine at the Symbiosis Treehouse Restaurant and build a woodland Homestead.
On Sunday 26th July, the incredible British Sea Power will headline with a live score to From The Sea to The Land Beyond supported by the Inner Vision Orchestra Quartet who bring together musicians from across the world who are blind or partially sighted.
Roaming performers will set up camp throughout the park on the weekends so stay all day and find someone to serenade you. There are so many free workshops, walks, talks and interesting installations throughout the park that even we have lost track! But read the online programme and there will be something to lead you astray everyday whether you are into bats, life drawing, fisherman’s tales, history, how germs travel or arguing about films that everyone disagrees with you on.
There’s still time to enter the Shuffle Festival Short Film Prize judged by Danny Boyle, Riz Ahmed, Kim Longinotto and Peter Bradshaw. Deadline is midnight 8th July 2015.
The programme this year starts in the village of Mile End with a FREE FEAST for 500 people – you may have already had an invite through your door! If you’re a local organisation and haven’t received an invitation please email email@example.com
The feast will start with a procession by Paracarnival around the cemetery park to ‘unwind time’ and begin the 9 days of fun and ends with an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a tradition from the birthplace of humanity, and as the cemetery darkens the outdoor cinema begins.
Tower Hamlets Residents!
We’re collecting family ancestry stories from Tower Hamlets and we want yours to be included!
Write down where your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents lived by Wednesday 1st July and be in with a chance of winning a pair of free tickets – to any event of your choice – at Shuffle Festival next month.
All family information will be displayed anonymously in a giant, beautiful map in Tower Hamlets Cemetery park for you to explore between 24th July and 1st August as Shuffle Festival celebrates Movement, Migration and Place. We will also be working with an evolutionary geneticist to hypothesise how much more interrelated humanity would be, if all the world was as wonderfully migratory as Tower Hamlets.
The winner will be able to choose from film screenings in the cemetery park, gigs in the woods, an incredible dinner in a unique location and a first-of-its-kind virtual reality experience.
