Community Land Trusts – what are they?

A Public Meeting is being held on Wednesday 11th May 2011, 7 – 8:30pm

at Bow Road Methodist Church

What is a CLT

John Davis - CLT expert

What could the government’s idea of a ‘Big Society’ mean in practice? Community Land Trusts are one example of citizens taking control of their own futures and providing for their own needs, in partnership with local government and public bodies.

Can Community Land Trusts offer solutions to problems of unaffordable housing urban locations. Could an urban Community Land Trust create opportunities to protect and promote local enterprise, keeping money within the local economy and sustaining isolated or disadvantaged communities.

Community Land Trusts have been tried and tested elsewhere – notably in the US – and there is a growing body of evidence to show that they are do-able in the UK.

John Davis is the pre-eminent authority on Community Land Trusts and will speak at the meeting on Wednesday 11th May 2011 at 7.00pm. (Click here for map to venue) John will give a 45 minute talk entitled ‘What is a Community Land Trust?’, starting from its most basic principles, charting its rise as a tool used by the Civil Rights Movement, through to its modern day incarnation in over 200 cities across the United States. He will then be open to questions and contributions from the floor.
