A pedestrian was injured yesterday morning at 10.55 on the Mile End Road. Witnesses say the man was struck by a car as he was nearing the central reservation while crossing near the junction with Southern Grove. After the collision he fell back under the car which continued a few yards over him then stopped, trapping him underneath. The car had to be lifted off the man by four passers by. Unconfirmed reports at the moment say his injuries miraculously were not fatal.
Traffic was stopped in both directions while the ambulance attended. The man was taken to the Royal London hospital with head injuries.
Both lanes have now been reopened
